* personal interests and activities: Married to an emergency room nurse, they have three grown children. His son Mitchell is married and an Air Force pilot. Daughter Catherine is married and lives in Oregon. Daughter Meghan is teaching high school geometry in Florida. Family activities include sports, photography, gardening, hiking, camping, biking, cross-country skiing & boating;
* Philip has fulfilled his sixth year on the Coopersville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors holding executive positions as secretary and treasurer for the Chamber and currently is a member-at-large, board liason. Philip was a member of the initial advisory board for the Coopersville Farm Museum and presently is the secretary/treasurer of the Western Michigan Society for Industrial Heritage. The Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, restoration and demonstration (education) of equipment used as part of our early American heritage. Philip was also a member of the administrative committee which founded Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven and has also served as Sunday School teacher, building committee member, and as media coordinator. Philip was also instrumental on the marketing committee for the Grand Haven Christian School renovation. Promotional materials and stationery for this project received recognition from Quimby-Walstrom and Cross Pointe Paper Corporation for Excellence in Design & Use of Paper in a campaign.

Philip has worked in the field of marketing and communications since 1979.
* as a technical writer and illustrator for the Challenge Machinery Company of Grand Haven, MI he performed all functions of producing instruction manuals including writing, photography, darkroom printing, typesetting, key line, stripping film negatives and burning printing plates for the printing department. He introduced telecommunications with off-site typesetting equipment and introduced the Macintosh computers for the design of POP packaging materials. Mr. Cok also was chairman of the Product Liability Committee which worked closely with corporate counsel and insurers to reduce premiums through pro-active measures. The committee introduced a landmark product obsolescence policy to reduce liability on outdated equipment.
* as an account manager and vice president of Marketing Managers in Grand Rapids, Mr. Cok continued to expand the use of Macintosh equipment for production of instruction manuals, advertising and corporate communications materials. He helped introduce the first Linotronics image setter to the Grand Rapids market and helped pioneer the direct to film output from Macintosh front-end equipment. Macintosh computer layout and illustration training was a natural spinoff for clients such as Meijer Corp., Sefton Advertising Agency, Gantos and the Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company. Client lists included Challenge Machinery, Gallmeyer & Livingston, Haworth Furniture, Cascade Engineering, Paragon Die & Engineering, Chem Max Corp., Dake Corporation, Bissell Inc., Rapistan Corp., and others.
* as a partner with Conni Schaftenaar in Marketing Management Services, Inc. the duo continued to break ground with new technology. Conni and Philip created the website, Coopersville.com at a point in time when few local businesses wanted to invest in a web presence for the Coopersville Chamber of Commerce. This is now one of the premier sites for small chambers of commerce! Conni and Philip expanded their clientele to include the Coopersville Chamber, Steelcase, Herman Miller, David C Bos Homes, West Michigan Taxidermy, Allendale Telephone, Community Care Centers, Northern Physical Therapy Service, Volgelzang International, and others.
* Philip and Conni dissolved the corporation in Dec. of 2005 after which Philip retained the company name and re-organized as a Limited Liability Corporation. Philip and Conni continue to partner on joint projects and continue to rely on an extensive pool of free-lance artists, photographers, programmers and graphic designers. This business philosophy allows the business to keep overhead to a minimum, control costs and provide an exceptional product that produces results for our clients.
