About Us

It’s not “About Us.” It’s all about YOU. With more than 50 years satisfying clients, hundreds of awards for great creative, business results, and more . . . it HAS to be about you, the client. We’re passionate about getting to know our clients, their markets, their customers, and their competitors. It’s what makes us good. It takes time and determination. It takes asking tough questions. It takes going places others only speculate about. And, it works.

When people ask “about us” we tell them about our clients. They come in all shapes and sizes. They’re across the globe and right next door. Each one has unique challenges and opportunities. We help them, teach them, learn from them, tell them what they need to hear but may not want to hear. We celebrate successes with them, and we’re there to help them through the hard times.

Now, if you really do want to know more about what AMPM has to offer, we’re ready to tell you more:

Our History

Mart Eichinger started it all when he got back from WWII in 1946. He joined up as the first employee and first art director at Wagnitz Advertising in Midland. The small agency prospered serving local and regional accounts including a tiny start-up venture jointly launched by Dow Chemical and Corning Glass Works. It was called Dow Corning and made products from a versatile material known as silicone that was invaluable in the war effort.

John Church joined the firm in 1949 and Wagnitz soon retired from the business, selling it to Church and new creative partner Bill Guisewite. Sensibly enough, they then named it Church and Guisewite. This began a sixteen year run as a growing, successful, business-to-business agency with such clients such as Saginaw Steering Gear and Central Foundry divisions of GM, Scientific Anglers, Ultra Carbon Corp., Chemical Bank, and Dow Corning.

Mart Eichinger, Jim Ritter, Ralph Sitter, Bill Trethaway, and Carl Zotter took over the reins of the agency in 1969. Feeling that all those names were a mouthful and the acronym “ZERTS” didn't quite have the right ring to it, they decided not to name the place after themselves. Instead, they called it “AMPM” after the four services they offered — Advertising, Marketing, Publicity and Merchandising. Carl resigned in 1972, and the four partners moved the agency forward for over 22 years. Mart is enjoying retirement, and Jim, a healthy man of 80+, is experiencing the life of a stay-at-home dad as his wife recently gave birth to twins! Hum, what does that mean for Bill, our oldest partner, and the patriarch of the agency?

In 1994 another energized, loyal employee stepped up to join the partners. Mark Bush joined AMPM back in 1980, right out of art school. He was young, idealistic, and creative. His work and innovative approaches put him well ahead of the pack. As partner today, Mark brings perspective and a healthy respect for the past. He leads the team with a new flare for technology and innovation that clients need today.

Agency partner Dave Well joined in 1992 and heads up our new business division, based in Detroit. With his networking skills and strategic understanding, AMPM is going places we’ve never been before.
